Cervical Spondylosis is a degenerative disease of the cervical
region of the spine. The spine is made of blocks of bone, in-
between them cushions of cartilage and elastic tissues are
present called inter-vertebral discs which act as shock
absorbers, but when the space between the cervical
vertebrae narrows, nerves are compressed and causes pain. This is called Cervical Spondylosis. Symptoms of Cervical Spondylosis Continual severe pain which may spread to both side of
shoulders, collar bone, head-side and backside of neck; pain
may occur in both the arms and fingers; acute or chronic
stiffness that may lead to restricted movements; giddiness,
headache, numbness or complete loss of sensation on
affected side; weakness in the muscles of hand or arm. Causes of Cervical Spondylosis Injury especially to the neck. Faulty posture due to soft chair and coaches. Improper lifting of weights. Stress and strain caused by sitting for a long time. Incorrect nutrition and psychological strains. Lack of exercise weakens the muscles and makes them
vulnerable. Treatment of Cervical Spondylosis Walking, bicycling and swimming improve the supply of
nutrients to spinal discs and delays process of deterioration. People with sedentary occupation should change positions
often, stand up every hour, avoid soft cushioned seats, use
thin pillows or avoid it, and sleep on firm mattresses with
knees bent at right angles to the torso. Perform joint movements moving wrists up and down,
folding and unfolding fingers, rotating wrists clockwise and
anticlockwise, moving neck up and down, moving to the
sides and rotating it clockwise and anticlockwise. The patient should have 4 meals a day consisting of milk,
salad of raw vegetables, steamed vegetables, whole-wheat
bread and sprouts. Adequate amounts of proteins, vitamin C, Vitamin D, calcium and phosphorus are also essential. Avoid sour curd, sugar, spicy, fried and fatty foods, tea and coffee,
refined and processed food and tobacco and smoking. 2-3 cloves of garlic should be taken in the morning. Oil
