So, people on 2G data plan could continue with their existing plan plus were able to switch 3G mode whenever needed. The company charged 10 paisa per 10 kb for data services.
It was a perfect situation for customers as they enjoyed both the worlds as per their requirement and mind it they paid for it.
Now, all of a sudden Airtel realised that less people are opting for full fledge 3G plan, so without informing customers they made a rule that one can be on a 2G or on a 3G plan only. The intention is to sell more 3G plan to already enticed customers.
Companies use customers to their advantage. 3G network is erratic, thus call drops is a big issue. So, cannot be on 3G expensive network always.
Plus, there is no way one can know the amount of kb used under any data plan. How would customer choose a 3G data plan i.e. without knowing his average monthly usage. And customer cannot control his monthly usuage. By the way, this facility is available on Vodafone.
